My Garden Goals This Year

Hey, it's Meadow here and I want to share with you my garden goals for this year. We bought this property in June 2023 and we couldn't do much due to the state the property was left in. In the last six months, we focused really hard on cleaning things up and repairing things to be functional. Now were finally at a place where we can focus on the real goals, homesteading and selling. I have this one goal burned into my brain - to create a fun environment to bring your children, to change the societal expectations of what a grocery trip should look like. Imagine, you bring your kids to a playground, you pick up your prepicked produce or elect to self pick, you have the option to purchase breads, sweets, dairy items, and meat and everyone leaves not over stimulated or aggravated with healthy food. Grocery stores suck and I want to be here to change that experience.
During the last six months we did purchase two milk cows, two goats, and two pigs. Our goals for the animals is to be able to produce milk and meat. This is definitely a three year goal due to the lack of any males on our property, and the time of gestation. But it's in the works!
The orchard is in a state of despair. Its not a very old orchard so I still have hope. We have done a lot of pruning and fertilizing to help it come back into full production. But in case its a lost cause, we are also doubling the size of the orchard this year. It won't have much production for about two years but soon we hope to have peaches, apples, pears, more blueberries, grapes, figs, nectarines, lemons, dragon fruit, and passionfruit!
We have prepped the 30'x80' greenhouse for spring planting. We have picked out the 100'x100' garden spot. In February, we will be tilling up the grass and planting herbs and cold weather crops in the green house. In March, we will be seed starting our warm weather crops. In April, we will transfer our seed starts to the ground. May is the start of harvesting cold weather crops like lettuce, kale, radishes, carrots, collard greens, and beets. June through September, we will be harvesting warm weather crops as they become ripe; such as, tomatoes, peppers, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, zucchini, peas, beans, luffas, potatoes, melons, artichoke, corn, pumpkins, eggplant, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, and brussel sprouts. We will also do another round of planting cold weather crops in August, for harvest in November.
We have our CSA's (community supported Agriculture; produce shares) available now and we will also be at the farmer's market on Saturdays.
On top of all of this we also have our health and wellness line of products which will be ever growing and adapting to the market. We make colloidal silver, elderberry syrup, magnesium spray and lotions, salves, soap, honey, and crocheted items.
Its been a busy six months and we can't wait for the busyness and growth that 2024 will bring!
